Running multithreaded program code can have overheads due to false sharing and contention that, in the worse case, can exponentially negatively affect performance but, fortunately, these cases are usually straight-forward to mitigate after they have been identified. This presentation will discuss what false sharing and contention are, how they can be present in one's programs, how such can be mitigated so they are not an issue, and to an extent how one can determine if false sharing and/or contention may be a problem in one's program.
