This course is intended to introduce researchers and research support staff within the discipline of health research to the use of electronic data capture (EDC) tools as an essential component of Research Software (RS). This course will introduce you to the role of REDCap as part of a complementary tool in a Researcher's toolkit. It is intended to inform the role of expanding how researchers collect, manage, and share data, from project planning to the submission and maintenance of a data repository.
This course consists of 5 modules. Modules 1-4 are directly applicable to the conceptual use of REDCap and are scaled accordingly to prior skill level, with module 1 being introductory and modules 2, 3, and 4 building on prior knowledge. Module 5 is applicable to all with respect to RDM concepts in the context of EDC. Each unit with each module consists of a knowledge-check quiz at the end of each unit. While modules can be completed independently, it is recommended that you complete them in order.
You will learn to implement advanced branching logic to clean data and proactively prepare datasets for repositories such as Borealis and FRDR in accordance with FAIR principles. Whether you are a novice looking to build your first project or an experienced researcher aiming to optimize your data workflow, this toolkit provides the essential strategies to streamline analysis, reduce data-cleaning time, and ensure your data’s lasting impact.
